What are the Cures for Pimples?

Pimples are tiny, pointed elevations on the skin that contain pus in most cases. They are caused due to skin infection, irritation, or over activity of the sebaceous and sweat glands. Most persons associate pimples with a skin disorder called acne, which is considered the most common cause of its development. Medically, these pimples are referred to as papules or pustules on the skin.

What Leads to Pimples?

  • The primary culprit behind acne is the Acne bacterium that occurs normally in the skin. When a blockage of the pore occurs, acne bacteria grow and multiply- a condition that translates into over production of sebum. This excess sebum acts as a nutrition source for the bacteria, which in turn releases chemicals within the follicle. These chemicals attract white cells from the blood and ends up causing inflammation and infection, known to us as pimples or zits.
  • Other common actions can also worsen the condition and spread the acne bacteria by further inflammation, like over zealous cleansing of the skin, squeezing or picking at the pimples and use of greasy makeup products that can clog the follicles.
  • Exposure to oily, greasy and other harmful emissions in the environment like those from a factory, fast food joint, garage etc. can also aggravate the acne and further block the skin pores.
  • Pimples are red and cyst-like growths on the surface of the skin and though they may look unbecoming to the affected person, squeezing them is not the solution to getting rid of them. Instead, trying to zap the zit by popping it only prolongs the life and may cause permanent scarring of the tissue there.

Prevention of Pimples:

While pimples can take away from the natural beauty of a person, there are some ways of keeping them at bay if they are not genetically inclined to occur, as is the case with teenagers who have parents/older siblings affected by severe acne.

  • A popular kitchen remedy for prevention of pimples is to use a honey mask on a weekly basis. Honey is considered a disinfectant and helps in healing pimples by killing bacteria found in your skin.
  • Hydration through drinking plenty of water and fruits rich with water-content like watermelon, oranges, cucumbers and pineapples helps keep skin disorders like pimples at bay.
  • A weekly face pack of sandalwood mixed with rosewater and applied for 15 minutes to the skin will reduce the recurrence of pimples and help stem sebum production by cooling the skin.
  • Applying the juice of a raw papaya on swelling pimples and drinking wheat grass juice regularly is said to help treat pimples.
  • Kitchen remedy enthusiasts swear by the orange peel antidote for pimples: this can be created by grinding orange peel in water and obtaining a paste from it to be applied on and around the pimples.
